Deep In It

Deep In It was Eppley’s first solo show. Through his “embodied abstraction” approach, he chronicled the chaos and confusion of the pandemic, explored societal issues (social injustice, war, insurrection, etc.), and reflected on the human condition generally.

Curator’s Statement: Larry reconnected with his desire to produce art during the earliest days of the pandemic. He found resonance in that which is individual—the experience of bringing hand to canvas, eye with hand, but in honor of contemporary social themes. I’d call his work “embodied abstract,” as it is harmonious with great masterpieces and social movements, yet uniquely and wholly individual. His work encounters universal themes that transcend public and private notions. Larry’s art is a sustained reflection through our last few years. It is simultaneously present: when we remember the grand unknowing of 2020, we find unity in Larry’s work. When we remember the more recent societal events or the invasion of Ukraine, Larry’s work has an offering. And now, in 2023, Larry’s work sends us forth into even broader universal themes, timeless in enterprise. I am proud to invite you to view Larry’s first solo exhibition: Deep In It. This chapter of Larry’s work embodies the transition from the pandemic into our current “beyond”. Our task is to ask ourselves, “In what way am I a part of this?” I encourage you to allow yourself to fall into Larry’s work. My hope (we can’t forget hope!) is that you leave feeling closer to that which calls you. Our hope is that you end up Deep in it.
